    Business and industry representatives, government officials, university representatives and others will discuss a number of topics over the day-and-a half meeting. Topics will include the Environmental Protection Agency’s rule on greenhouse gas emissions; progress on Kentucky’s energy plan and a discussion about the state’s energy future; university research; the changing business models of utility companies; business sustainability; and a conversation with staff from the Energy and Environment Cabinet.

    Robert Chatham, on behalf of KySES, will present an overview of solar energy in KY and across the country.  In the course of his presentation, he will cover topics including current solar legislation like net metering, federal and state tax incentives for home owners and businesses, energy financing alternatives for businesses, and local grass root efforts to promote solar energy projects.

    The hearing on the Clean Energy Opportunity Act (HB 229, An Act Relating To Economic Development) has been scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 17 at 1:00 p.m. in Frankfort.  The hearing will be 30 minutes long in front of the interim joint committee on Economic Development and Tourism which includes 49 members of the House of Representatives and the Senate.  Representative John Short and Senator Alice Forgy Kerr are co-chairs of this committee.

    The International Construction and Utility Equipment Exposition (ICUEE), also known as The Demo Expo, is the premiere event for utility industry professionals to gain comprehensive insight into the latest technologies, innovations, insights, and trends affecting their industry. Registration fee applies. 


    Robert Chatham, on behalf of KySES, will present - "Alternative Energy Heats Up With Solar". He will explain the benefits of solar power and why it is becoming increasingly attractive to owners of business and industrial facilities as well as individual home owners. New solar energy systems are providing power for business and industrial facilities, college and university campuses, and government complexes. Arrays of solar panels require power cables to transmit and distribute power, and many are being placed underground. This session is an update on the solar industry and discussion of opportunities for underground construction contractors.

    The 2015 Louisville Solar Tour will be Saturday, October 10th, in partnership with ASES (American Solar Energy Society). This annual event provides real-life examples of how Louisville families and businesses are harnessing free energy from the sun to generate electricity, warm and cool their homes, heat water, charge their electric cars, and slash monthly utility bills. This year's tour will feature an several educational programs: an introduction to solar at the Green Building in the morning (10-11:30am); bus tour with Tim Darst of KIPL, self-guided bike and self-guided vehicle tour options to see various solar systems; plus a solar energy celebration fair at the Apocalypse Brew Works in the afternoon (2-4pm) where installer and electric vehicle owners/dealers will display their products. EvolveKY, the all electric vehicle club, will be also be involve. They will be participate at all 3 events (Green Building, Bus Tour, and Apocalypse). Everyone is welcomed to come to any or all of these Louisville Solar Tour Day events!     The Bowling Green Solar Tour is part of the 20th Annual National Solar Tour sponsored by the American Solar Energy Society (ASES). The tour will be hosted by Bowling Green based Solar Energy Pioneers. The tour will begin at to the Solar Energy Pioneers storefront, 8141 Nashville Rd. (3.5 miles south of town) at 10:00 a.m., where there will be a presentation about how solar works in Kentucky. Following this, participants will carpool to six sites, all within a five mile radius. A variety of installation types will be showcased, including roof mounted and ground mounted, residential and commercial, and a dual axis tracker system. The tour is free and open to the public.

    The 2015 Elizabethtown Solar Tour will showcase solar-powered homes and businesses in Elizabethtown. The tour will be hosted by the Memorial United Methodist Church (UMC) and Avery and Sun Solar Installations. This event is one of hundreds being held across the U.S. as part of the 20th annual National Solar Tour of the American Solar Energy Society (ASES).


    The 2015 Elizabethtown Solar Tour will begin at the UMC, 631 North Miles Street, at 10:00 a.m. with a presentation on Solar in Kentucky from three perspectives: as system owner, installer, and utility. The speakers will include Bob Steen, UMC Board Chair; Sam Avery, Avery and Sun owner; and Jason Mattingly, Meter and Power Use Controller at Nolin Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation, Following this, participants will view the UMC’s recent 50 kW installation then carpool to two residential sites within a five mile radius with a 32.55 kW ground mount system and a 19.84 kW roof mount system.

    Participants will learn about the affordability, carbon savings, and other benefits of solar as well as about federal and state tax credits and Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs). The tour is free and open to the public.
