“We started to pursue solar but we didn’t want to make the coal miners mad by doing so. But when I talked to them, they all said something like, ‘well hunnie it looks like coal ain't never coming back the way it used to.' They all said we’re struggling financially ourselves and we don’t want the community center to close. So if there is anything we can do to help get solar up there, let us know, because we want it on our houses.
Every week we serve 300-350 people. We have N.A. meetings on Sundays and Wednesdays, Kung Fu classes, senior citizens meetings, Friday night picking and supper club, shape note singing, volunteer food prep, our bakery and catering companies, baby showers, and birthday parties. It's a big old place and solar is the reason why we're able to stay open right now. ” |
